Week 19

Yes, yes, I see...

I am trying to approach this pregnancy with a sense of humor, and thus far I'm mostly succeeding. During my sickest days, I even conceived of "barf bingo," the game where you mark off achievements such as "barf while driving" and "barf in the presence of strangers" or "barf on the same day as your cat." So yesterday, when I threw up right outside the Tim Horton's drive thru while simultaneously peeing myself on my way home from work, honestly, I saw the humor in it. There is humor in almost every pregnancy symptom. The one thing that I have found utterly unfunny is dealing with the diabetes. Things that can potentially damage your unborn child are slightly less hilarious. I mean, my unborn child's health depends on my ability to do MATH. Okay, that's kind of funny. But scary! I think that only mathematically gifted people should have to get diabetes. I'm so bad at estimating and converting and multiplying and all those many things that are necessary when carb counting.

On a different topic, the other day I found myself yelling, "EAT THAT OR I WILL!" at my husband repeatedly as his burger perched on its plastic wrapper on the arm of the couch. Ultimately, I ate half of it (in addition to my own, of course). I am definitely eating for two... grown adults. But man, not only do I have the gift of life stirring in my belly (still don't feel it yet), but I get to gain weight and no one is allowed to say anything about it. It's a great time to be a woman.

And in case I haven't mentioned it 2 dozen times, we are finding out the gender on THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want a girl because I have so many freaking adorable girl clothes/dresses, but I want a boy so that he can style this handsome mustache pacifier that I have crafted. Maybe I am having twins, and they just missed it the first 6 ultrasounds.

18 Weeks

I swear it's not a beer belly!

It's a great week to be a fetus! So says my pregnancy book. I bet it's pretty dang cozy in there this week--probably still plenty of room to stretch developing limbs and practice swimming. It can also suck its thumb, make Jacob's ladder out of the umbilical cord, and hiccup!

This week has seen the appearance of swelling in my feet--probably due to the hot weather, among other things. It has also seen the discovery of frozen lemonade at Tim Horton's for $1, which doubles up on the lemon-and-cold-things remedy that have been working to soothe my sour stomach.

All in all, it's been a smooth week. I'm still not able to wean myself fully off the heavy duty nausea meds (I start throwing up after about 24 hours of being off them), but I have cut them WAY back and am feeling in generally good spirits. Next week is a big week because we will be finding out the gender! I already have quite a collection of girls', boys', AND neutral clothes accumulated, so I'm ready! And no, I don't particularly have a premonition of its gender anymore...
